The Hiroshi Onoda Laboratory at Waseda University, which is conducting joint research with E-Cubed Goals, contributed an article titled "Study on the Deactivation of Ternary Lithium-Ion Batteries in Cryogenic Environments" to the October 2025 issue of INDUST, a comprehensive trade journal specializing in industrial waste treatment and resource circulation.
"INDUST" is a comprehensive monthly trade journal dedicated to industrial waste management and resource circulation, published by the Japan Industrial Waste Information Center (a public interest incorporated association). It was launched in 1986 to provide systematic, expert information tailored to the industrial waste management industry.
Its readership spans a wide range of sectors—including industrial waste collectors and transporters, intermediate processors, final disposal operators, waste-generating businesses, manufacturers of waste processing and environmental sanitation equipment, government agencies, local municipalities, public health centers, and research institutions such as universities—with a circulation of 5,000 copies.
For the "Exploring Countermeasures Against LiB-Induced Fires" feature (Special Feature 2) in the October 2025 issue, the laboratory of Professor Hiroshi Onoda at Waseda University contributed an article titled "Study on the Deactivation of Ternary Li-ion Batteries (LiBs) in Cryogenic Environments."
The article presents technical findings based on nail-penetration tests conducted in cryogenic environments; it graphs the characteristics of the LiB's surface temperature and electromotive force, and analyzes and evaluates the deactivation of the battery based on the experimental data. The article concludes by outlining plans for continued research aimed at developing a system that can be implemented at low cost.
